Junior School Newsletter, Term 3 - Week 5

Term 3, Week 5
"Abracadabra... Hocus Pocus... I AM A SCIENTIST!" These were the words that got our kids so excited about Science this week when the 'Silly Scientist' came to visit. While it may have seemed magical, there was some wonderful concepts behind the 'tricks' that got the kids involved and excited. Chemical reactions, sound waves and experiments with density formed part of the show and it was a hit with kids and teachers alike. The follow up activities in our classrooms have included coke and mentos explosions, tea bag rockets and pencils through bags of water! Many of these experiments are safe and easy to try at home, take a look at these websites for some cool ideas!

In READING this fortnight, we have been learning to locate the important information in a story to support our understanding and comprehension of a text.

During WRITING this fortnight, we have been focusing on procedural writing and have enjoyed designing our own procedures and recording procedures from activities during Science Week!

Our latest topic in MATHS has been Fractions. We are enjoying learning about how fractions are used in our everyday lives.

This fortnight we continued our INQUIRY topic, 'Living Things' as part of Science Week. We have been investigating the world around us.

If you would like to volunteer in the classroom, please ensure the office has a copy of your Working With Children Check.
