Junior School Newsletter - Term 1, Week 5

 Term 1, Week 5

Welcome to the second edition of the Junior School newsletter for 2019!

As the first term rushes past, we congratulate all of the Year 1 and 2 students for settling into the school year and for making the most of their educational and social opportunities.

The classes are gelling well and the students are also enjoying coming together as one big cohort. New friendships have formed and there have been a number of activities completed that investigate friendship and promote positive social interactions between the students.

We look forward to the exciting year ahead!

Monday March 4: Yoga (Session 4)
Monday March 11: LABOUR DAY
Monday March 18: Yoga (Session 5)
Friday April 5: Last Day of Term 1

In READING this week, we are learning to connect what we read to our lives, other books and the world around us. We have started ability based reading rotations this week, which incorporate reading comprehension, guided reading, Reading Eggs and spelling activities.

During
WRITING this week, we have investigated some different forms of poetry, experimenting and having fun with words.

Over the past fortnight in MATHS, we have engaged with units on Data and Chance. The students have learnt how to pose appropriate survey data and represent their findings on a graph. The have also described the chance of everyday events occurring.

* Please ensure that all students wear helmets if they are riding or scooting to school. If students are not wearing a helmet, they risk serious injury in the event of a crash.

* We always welcome parent/family helpers in the classroom. If you are interested, please ensure you provide a copy of your
Working With Children Check to the office. More information can be found at: http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/

* Term 1 is a
SunSmart term - please ensure your child has a MPPS wide brim hat for recess and lunchtimes. Students without hats will be asked to play in the shaded areas.
